What? Where? When?
The Windsor International Guide and Scout Camp (WINGS) is an international camp for Scouts and Guides aged 10 and over. It is a joint venture between Berkshire Scouts and Girlguiding Berkshire. WINGS 2009 takes place in the Queen's back garden, in the deer park of Windsor Great Park. This will be the fourth WINGS, the previous jamborees happening in 1993, 1998 and 2003. WINGS takes place over the week of 1-8 August 2009.
Taceham WINGS
Taceham Hundred District invites all Scouts and Explorer Scouts to attend WINGS as part of a District Unit. The offer is extended to Cub Scouts who are 8½ or over, and will be at least 10 years old on 1 August 2009.
During the twelve months leading up to WINGS, the Unit will take part in the pre-WINGS "TakeOff" programme, which will include a training camp, plus a number of fundraising opportunities to support its participation. We even hope to have our own badge for our uniform and for swapping with others.
The Event
Taceham WINGS participants will arrive at site on Saturday, 1 August 2009 (More). During the afternoon we will establish ourselves within one of the subcamps, putting up all our tents and building our gateways and towers. In the evening we'll join the rest of the subcamp for the subcamp opening ceremony before joining the whole camp in the grand opening event.
During the next week we'll be cooking, working, playing, laughing, singing, learning, discovering, sleeping, talking and participating in many different activities, cultural programmes, and entertainments. With a thousand people just in our subcamp, and over five thousand across the whole camp, this is going to be an experience to remember.
We'll get back to Thatcham one week later on Saturday, 8 August 2009.
